10. One Night In Miami And Soul Writer Locked Out

One Night In Miami and Soul. What do they have in common? Well, Kemp Powers, that's what. The screenwriter for both films has truly had a phenomenal year.

However, when the Globes dropped their nominees for this year, a quick look over it made your heart stop as the name 'Kemp Powers - One Night In Miami' was absent. Whilst this will certainly be rectified by the wider categories offered by BAFTA and The Academy, since they split their writing categories into Adapted and Original Screenplay, it was still a shock to see Jack Fincher's controversial work for Mank nominated over Powers.

Not to say that Mank wasn't a good screenplay but it perpetuates the lie that Herman J. Mankiewicz wrote the script to Citizen Kane alone without Orson Welles. Which feels a bit like a slap in the face to Orson Welles 36 years after he died, and another example of how badly he was treated by Hollywood.

As for Soul, well, it is a Pixar animation and therefore was unlikely to get a screenplay nod anyway but that shouldn't detract from its beauty.
