Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2: 10 Reasons It's Better Than The Original

8. Better Screenwriting

Good screenwriting really is something that is taken for granted these days and not nearly as praised as it ought to be. As anyone who's ever written a screenplay will tell you, consistently producing good, natural sounding dialogue all while maintaining a story that makes sense is no easy task and you should expect to re-write the entire thing several times over.

Enter James Gunn, who returned to not only direct the sequel to his first Marvel success, but also pen its screenplay once again. And in the three years since the first movie was released, it's very apparent that he has only improved when it comes to putting together a screenplay.

The plot is constructed wonderfully and, more importantly to the topic at hand, the dialogue is near-perfect, meaning he all but nailed the hardest aspect of writing for a film. Every single word that is exchanged between each character feels natural and well-thought out, with all of the necessary exposition flowing in a way that feels fluid rather than forced.

Not to say that Vol. 1's screenplay wasn't good, but that of Vol. 2 is the result of natural progression and personal improvement by a screenwriter who has obviously tried his best to improve upon what he had already accomplished. Long story short, he succeeded.
