Halloween Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs

Ups...

6. It's The Best Halloween Since The First

This might sound like damning the movie with faint praise, but Halloween 2018 is without any doubt the best entry into the franchise in 40 years.

Of all the sequels and reboots, the only especially worthwhile Halloween movies were the original Halloween II and Halloween H20 - and maybe Season of the Witch for the sheer bizarro factor - until now.

Though it's certainly rough around the edges, the new Halloween is easily the most confident, technically impressive and straight-up scary franchise effort since John Carpenter's original.

It's easy to see why Carpenter himself was convinced to get involved as both composer and executive producer this time, because despite its glaring issues, this movie retains the eerie soul of the 1978 classic.
