Harry Potter: 10 Behind The Scenes Secrets That Will Blow Your Mind

1. Using Practical Wands On-Set

Wands come in a variety of shapes and sizes, but in all instances act as an extension of the witches or wizards who wield them. And since it's the wand that chooses the wizard, you'd think Harry and friends would do their best to keep their better halves nice and safe.

Although it was Ron Weasley who ended up breaking his wand in Chamber of Secrets, another culprit was actually responsible for wand genocide back on set.

In fact, throughout the duration of the franchise it was Daniel Radcliffe who broke around 80 wands, all of which had been hand-crafted to be used by his character.

According to reports, the actor had a tendency to poke his fellow cast mates and use his wand as a drum stick, which clearly contributed to the number of breaks he experienced. But he wasn't the only one to cause some trouble with a wand.

Helena Bonham Carter, who portrays Bellatrix Lestrange in the series, once took things a bit too far and ended up perforating the eardrum of Matthew Lewis when threatening his character, Neville Longbottom. As it turns out, wands can't be used as Q-tips.
