Harry Potter: 10 Most Anxiety-Inducing Movie Moments

3. Lupin’s Transformation – The Prisoner Of Azkaban

The finale of The Prisoner of Azkaban had many anxiety-inducing moments. There’s the conflict in the Shrieking Shack, the rescue of Buckbeak, and – of course – the Dementors. Yet the most frightening part of this finale would have to be Lupin’s transformation.

After leaving the Shrieking Shack with the intention of taking Peter Pettigrew back to the castle, the landscape is suddenly lit up with moonlight, and within seconds, Lupin starts to transform.

Granted, the CGI isn’t perfect, but it’s the sound effects that make this scene so terrifying. High-pitched screeches morph into low groans as Lupin undergoes his transformation. Sirius’s desperate attempts to control his friend prove to be fruitless, and even Snape has no response to the terrifying creature in front of him.

As unnerving as this transformation is, however, there’s one moment in The Prisoner of Azkaban that’s even scarier.
