Harry Potter: Every Wizarding World Movie Ranked Worst To Best

6. Harry Potter & The Order Of The Phoenix

After Voldemort returned at the emotional climax of The Goblet Of Fire, The Order Of The Phoenix saw an increasingly isolated Harry growing up slightly into a bit of a brat. This was his difficult period, when he was attracted by the romantic glamour of running off with his swash-buckling Godfather Sirius, and railed against sensible approaches offered by the more homely Weasleys.

Overall the film represents a turn to the darker side (inevitably, since the Dark Lord was back), and there are more mature emotional stakes - the handling of which probably made sure David Yates would be directing the rest of the series.

The Good

The stinging end of the tail as Sirius Black is killed by his own cousin is an incredible moment in the franchise and very much a high point. It's also another of those moments that feels ripped completely from the books (albeit without the weird babyhead bit).

The best - and simultaneously worst - part of the film is Dolores Umbridge. In Imelda Staunton's hands she is despicable, incredibly easy to hate and thoroughly, awfully compelling. She's enough to set your teeth on edge just thinking about her.

The Bad

The presentation of Dumbledore is obviously important for story purposes, but he particularly comes across as unlikeable here and it's always struck me as a difficult part of the film to accept. Also, Harry is a touch too emo at the start.

It's also a major shame that they missed out Hagrid going to the Giant's homeland, as it would have meant some sort of involvement for them in the Battle Of Hogwarts in The Deathly Hallows Part 2.
