Harry Potter: Fan-Casting The Inevitable Cursed Child Movie

3. Amanda Abbington As Ginny Potter

Charlie Cox Harry Potter
BBC

Why She's Right For The Role

Ginny Potter is a devoted mother and wife and needs to have the strength to put up with all the trials and tribulations being married to Harry Potter must bring.

She isn't afraid to tell Harry off or put him in his place either, and gives him valuable counsel throughout the course of Cursed Child, able to support him as a wife and as a trusted friend.

Abbington's best audition for this role is Sherlock, where she plays Mary Watson, John's wife. Like Ginny, Mary's married to a man who regularly finds himself in tricky situations, and she frequently has to reel him in and give him a scolding, something we see numerous times throughout her appearances on the show.

But at the end of the day, she supports John no matter how dangerous or ridiculous his escapades with Sherlock may become, in exactly the same way Ginny supports Harry. Just dye her hair red and she's all set!

Chances Of It Happening

If the movie were being cast this week, then slim. Abbington recently separated from long-time husband Martin Freeman, so she'll probably want to stay out of the spotlight for a good while.

She's mainly a TV actress too, with roles in Case Histories and Mr Selfridge outside her work in Sherlock, so a jump to a huge project like Cursed Child may be biting off more than she can chew.

That being said, she's got three feature-films due out in 2017, so she's clearly interested in the industry.
