Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them: Everything We Know So Far

6. The Curious Case Of Newt Scamander

With Eddie Redmayne playing Newt Scamander, it's hardly a surprise that the character is described as being somewhat eccentric! The quirky actor has become something of a chameleon hopping between movies like Les Miserables, The Theory of Everything, and The Danish Girl, but this is a role which definitely sounds like it was written with him in mind. The globe-hopping English "magizoologist" is apparently a lot more comfortable around the beasts and creatures he investigates than other people, and while what brings him to New York City has yet to be revealed, we do know that he's going to end up throwing the secretive world of American wizards into chaos when some of his creatures break free. That sounds like a very simplistic premise, and you have to believe that there's going to be more to it than that, especially as Rowling already has two more movies mapped out. Interestingly, despite the fact that Newt is very much the movie's lead, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them will revolve around him and a trio of other characters working together. Those are Tina (Katherine Waterston), Queenie (Alison Sudol), and Jacob (Dan Fogler), and while Newt may be something of a loner when we first meet him, the fact that he ultimately marries Tina confirms that there will be at least some romance in the movie.
