20 Wild Horror Movie Casting Choices We Almost Got
1. Simon Pegg - Spoon (Dog Soldiers)
One of the more memorable characters in Neil Marshall's Dog Soldiers is Private Phil "Spoon" Witherspoon (Darren Morfitt), who so memorably tells a werewolf moments before it rips him apart, "I hope I give you the s**ts!"
And this is followed by the legendary, Matrix-aping one-liner from a comrade, "There is no spoon."
Darren Morfitt gives a pitch perfect performance in the part, but Marshall actually offered the role to another on-the-rise British actor before him - a little-known guy by the name of Simon Pegg.
This would've been Pegg's first major movie role, being best known for starring in Edgar Wright's classic TV series Spaced at the time, but he ended up turning it down for a most unexpected reason.
Basically, Pegg had promised Wright that their horror-comedy Shaun of The Dead would be his first "proper" movie role, and so despite how fiercely competitive acting is, Pegg stuck to his guns.
Morfitt was brilliant as Spoon and Pegg kept his promise to his friend before they collaborated on one of the most beloved horror comedy films of the 2000s. Win win.
Pegg likely would've been a good Spoon, but better than Morfitt? Probably not.
