20 Horror Movies You Should Watch Totally BLIND

1. Martyrs

Martyrs 2008
Wild Bunch

Martyrs is nothing if not a film that'll rock even the most hardened horror fan to their foundations if they have no idea of what to expect.

This stand-out entry in the New French Extremity movement of the 2000s follows Lucie (Mylène Jampanoï), a young woman with revenge on her mind - and, well, we'll leave it at that.

Just when you think you know what Martyrs is, filmmaker Pascal Laugier goes and detonates all expectations of the story, the tone, and even the genre of the film, ensuring it remains a wildly unpredictable ride all the way to the finish line.

No matter what you're expecting of Martyrs, you almost certainly won't predict where it ends up, and yet it never feels like the film is reaching to shock or surprise - it all feels wholly consistent with the world that's established in the early going.

Just ignore the absolutely rancid, predictably sanitised American remake that was sloughed out back in 2015.
