How Avengers: Endgame Was Almost Completely Different

6. Tony Stark's "I Am Iron Man" Moment Was A Last Minute Save

At the end of the final battle in Endgame, Tony Stark's sacrifice to save the universe as we know it comes with one final sassy quip, as all good things should. Of course, when the big purple grape Thanos decides his new catchphrase is "I am inevitable'", it fires up a retort of "I am Iron Man" from big Stark himself as he snaps Thanos into dandruff. It's a moment of triumph, calling back to the first Iron Man movie where Tony deliberately outs himself in celebration of being a superhero, and that these should be his last words feels only appropriate for the journey that he's been on.

There was a point, however, where Tony Stark remained silent in the face of Thanos, choosing to let his actions speak louder than his words for the first time in his life. It would've been a moment of quiet consideration coming from the man that has built a career around being outspoken, and ultimately didn't sit right with the screenwriters in the end.

They chose to add in his comeback after talking to editor Jeff Ford, who thought the cyclical storyline was best - and Stark's arc was made all the better for it.
