5. Other Mommy
After Bird Box broke all sorts of streaming records on Netflix, it was only a matter of time before another of Josh Malerman's novels was adapted. So when Incidents Around the House was dubbed “Exorcist-level scary” by the King of Horror himself, Stephen King, Blumhouse swiftly snapped up the film rights.
The adaptation, renamed Other Mommy, centres on eight-year-old girl called Bella, who's targeted by a sinister presence. It creeps out from Bella's bedroom closet and begs to be let “inside,” slowly tearing apart her already fractured family.
Director, Rob Savage, adapted Stephen King’s The Boogeyman in 2023, showing his skills at bringing acclaimed horror novels to the silver screen. That film also highlights Savage's talent at exploring stories involving disrupted families, childhood fears, and paranormal threats.
Leading the cast is Jessica Chastain, joined by Severance's Dichen Lachman and Raiders of the Lost Ark's Karen Allen, bringing serious acting weight to the terror. And with James Wan producing, expectations are understandably high.
If Other Mommy manages to capture the source material's nerve-fraying dread, it could be a smash hit.
