20 Upcoming Movies That Have Already WON
12. Star Wars: Starfighter
It's with good reason that many Star Wars fans are feeling rather fatigued with the franchise as of late, given that genuine quality has been in desperately short supply outside of TV series Andor, and the mainline movie franchise hit a brick wall with 2019's woefully disappointing Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
But after The Mandalorian and Grogu failed to make a dent earlier this year, there's something hugely refreshing about the next big-screen Star Wars movie, Star Wars: Starfighter.
Starfighter is set five years after The Rise of Skywalker but is being touted as an entirely standalone adventure with no overt ties to existing characters.
Considering Star Wars' tiresome infatuation with creating contrived links between its various strands of media, the world of these stories often ends up feeling bafflingly small, so it's innately intriguing that Starfighter isn't much interested in that.
And beyond rocking a terrific cast including Ryan Gosling, Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, and Amy Adams, Starfighter is intended to be a one-off, with no plans to expand into a multi-part franchise.
Now sure, if Starfighter grosses $2 billion then Disney will likely rethink their plans, but the notion that the next Star Wars blockbuster is just a siloed-off story focused on nothing but what's going on inside the frame is hugely appealing.
