In Memoriam: 10 Film Professionals Who Passed Away In 2012

4. Ernest Borgnine

Ernest Borgnine, known for his crude charm as well as being an integral part of film history, found what would arguably be his most important role later in his life. Saying this with pure respect and admiration, Borgnine€™s greatest role may have been his voice role as Mermaid Man on Spongebob Squarepants, preceded by roles in Escape from New York and The Dirty Dozen. Having made it to 95 years old, Borgnine leaves behind a legendary film career, having stamped his footprint harder than most people would ever believe on movies. An Academy Award winner for Best Actor in Marty, Ernest Borgnine was charming and a King in the film world. The day is a little darker now that he€™s gone.
