Insidious: The Last Key - 2 Ups & 7 Downs

4. Too Many Jump Scares

This shouldn't be surprising to anyone who has seen an Insidious movie, but yes, there are a lot of jump scares in this film.

In fairness, they do feel a little less obnoxious and scaled-back compared to the previous entries, but there are still the usual loud noises and tension chords to get easy shrieks from the Friday night horror crowd.

To anyone who watches their share of horror, though, it's all painfully predictable and played-out, to the extent that most of the movie's set-pieces may find you simply groaning as you wait for the jump to sound off.

Crafting real suspense and horror takes effort, but when these movies continue to make insane bank regardless of how creatively stagnant they are, there's clearly no incentive to change things up.
