Is MCU Setting Up Its Next Major Phase 4 Villain?
Could Mephisto Appear In Doctor Strange And Spider-Man Sequels?
Speaking of the 'Sorcerer Supreme', Mephisto has had encounters with Strange on many occasions throughout Marvel history. The Sorcerer Supreme has squared off with the demon in numerous comic book adventures, most famously freeing the souls of the Avengers from Mephisto's clutches. As Kevin Feige has already announced that we should expect to see Stephen Strange in Spider-Man 3 later this year, it would be a perfect opportunity to tease the appearance of one of Strange's toughest opponents for later down the line.
Finally, Peter Parker himself has also had the misfortune of meeting Mephisto; he learned first-hand that you should never make a deal with the devil in the aftermath of Civil War.
After the events of Marvel's Civil War comic storyline, Spider-Man revealed his identity to the world, thus putting everyone in his personal life at risk. This revelation led to Aunt May being shot and killed, which threw Peter Parker's life into disarray.
Parker eventually succumbed to his own demons, seeking out some sort of solution in an attempt to bring his elderly aunt back to life. Unfortunately for him, no one was able to help - Doctor Strange, Reed Richards and even Doctor Octopus all failed - and the web-slinger reached his breaking point.
Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson were approached by a young girl in the street, who claimed to possess the solution to all of their problems. This girl was soon revealed to be Mephisto, offering Parker a deal that would bring May back. Not for his soul, but another high price... his marriage.
Mephisto bargained with the wall-crawler and eventually offered a final deal: he would bring Aunt May back to life, in return for wiping Peter and MJ's marriage from history. The two agreed, with the added clause that he would also wipe all knowledge of Spider-Man's true identity from history.
A bargain with Mephisto could come in handy for the MCU's incarnation of the Friendly Neighbourhood hero, as his identity has just been revealed to the world at the climax of Spider-Man: Far From Home. A loose, on-screen adaptation of the One More Day comic book story would seem fitting for the third instalment of Spider-Man in the MCU, despite it being a less than fondly remembered story-arc among fans.
