James Bond: Ranking The Theme Songs From Worst To Best

19. License to Kill - Gladys Knight

License to KillDescription: Gladys Knight is a legend for her career in Soul music during the 1970's. I mean who hasn't heard of Midnight Train To Georgia, especially after 30 Rock used it to comedic advantage in its early days? This, however, is far from legendary. If you thought '80s synth was bad, hold on to your bowties as we're about to hit 90's synth hard, fast, and schmaltzy. It's another one of those Bond tracks that sounds more like it's selling cheap chocolates at your local grocer than selling you action and adventure. It doesn't even try to sound seductive, it just comes off as an overly dependent girlfriend who writes cheesy Valentines on your Walther PPK. (And she doesn't even think to give it a bit of a clean before you go back into the field. Some girl, eh?) Choice Lyrics: "Got a License to Kill, and you know I'm going straight for your heart /Got a License to Kill, anyone who tries to tear us apart." This is why we can't have nice things, and this is why MI6 has a strict policy on fraternization. Their policy: don't, lest you have one of your fellow agents compromising mission security because "that curious double gave you a look I just didn't like."
