Jason Segel Decides To Be A Man Over Muppet

Segel confirms he won't be returning in any form, writing or otherwise for "The Muppets 2".

Last week it was reported that while Disney were actively pursuing a follow-up to the blinding $153 million worldwide return of €˜The Muppets€™, things were still up in the air as to the nature of original star and co-writer Jason Segel€™s involvement in the sequel. Well, speaking to Collider, it has now been confirmed by the man himself that he won't be returning in any form, writing or otherwise for "The Muppets 2". Yes, people, Segel has decided that he is in fact a man rather than a muppet. Speaking to Collider Segel stated: €œIt€™s true but it€™s totally amicable. My goal was to bring The Muppets back and I did that leaving them in very good hands, my writing partner and James Bobin the director. I did what I set out to do and now I wanna pursue more human related projects. All I wanted to do was to set the stage for them to do whatever they wanted. I€™m sure I€™ll return in some capacity here and there, but that was half a decade of my life, five years of hard work. I€™m ready for a little puppet break€. I do not blame him. Segel did a fantastic job in bringing the Muppets back to the screen and did an even better job of putting them center stage over their other human counterparts. Between everything he has on his slate at the moment it makes sense that he steps away rather than holding up the sequel. Plus no Muppet movie is ever really related to the other and no human character from any film has returned, so one would think that the sequel would be standalone rather than a straight follow up but you never know. While Segel won€™t be returning, original director James Bobin and co-writer Nicholas Stoller have committed to more Muppet anarchy, though only for screenwriting duties thus far with no official mention yet as to whether Bobin will return to direct but considering the stellar job he did on the first movie, Disney would be very silly not to at least ask him first.
