Joker Trailer 2 Review: 9 Ups & 3 Downs

3. It's More Like A First Trailer

Thank the lords that there are still trailer companies out there who believe in the sanctity of movie mystery. Because this trailer could have done what WAY too many final trailers (and even second trailers) have done over the years and lifted up its skirt to show way too much in the hope of pulling in more ticket sales.

We're talking spoilers here, kids, so pull up a pew.

In most cases these days, any audience seeking to avoid spoilers should avoid the final trailer and the international trailers and TV spots. They're now used to show off too much because Hollywood's magic machine doesn't really believe in hinting over showing any more. It's a shame, but it's worked for them so who are any of us to argue with it.

It's just great to see a movie this big - and this much of a gamble in terms of being DIFFERENT (at least in comic book terms) - not over-egging the pudding. Instead, we're left here without knowing who Arthur is, what really drives him to snap, why the world is breaking the way it is, what his major relationships are other than vague hints or what his final form really is. And let's all be very thankful for that.
