Just How Big Is The Star Wars Galaxy?
1. Outside The Galaxy
Both Star Wars canon and Star Wars Legends tackled what lies outside of the cosmos, neither of which have offered a particularly optimistic view on the matter.
In canon, the Star Wars galaxy has seven neighbouring galaxies, one of which being the Rishi Maze, which is where the cloning planet, Kamino, can be found. Other than the Rishi Maze, little is known about the other six. Alternate dimensions could also be found outside of the Star Wars universe, like the World Between Worlds, which was a separate plane in the force, which bound space and time together. Other than that, little is known about what lies outside of the galaxy in canon, since it was incredibly difficult to leave, because the cosmos was surrounded by a hyperspace barrier called the Intergalactic Void, which prevented hyperspace travel.
In Legends, the things that lurk outside of the galaxy are far more sinister than what is seen in canon. Like canon, the Star Wars galaxy has seven neighbours, including the Rishi Maze and Firefist. Shortly after the Battle of Endor, inhabitants from the Firefist galaxy, the Tof, invaded the Star Wars universe, though were eventually defeated.
Another hostile species coming from outside of the main cosmos are the Yuzhan Vong. The Vong also invaded the Star Wars galaxy after the events of Return of the Jedi, and nearly defeated the New Republic, conquering the capital planet, Coruscant, amongst others, throughout the four years of the Yuzhan Vong War. The Vong finally surrendering after the New Republic and remnants of the Empire formed an alliance, which proved too much for the Vong to handle.
