Justice League: 10 Ways It Sets Up The Future Of The DCEU

5. The Road To Flashpoint

As soon as The Flash's upcoming solo movie was confirmed to be an adaptation of the complex and ambitious Flashpoint storyline, many fans began to suspect that it might be used to usher Ben Affleck out of the Batman role in a way that makes canonical sense.

If Affleck does indeed plan to leave the role as many reports claim, then it would make sense for Flashpoint's timeline-altering shenanigans to result in Bruce's new physical form.

How does Justice League set this up, though? Well, though it wasn't made especially clear in the film, it's subtly implied that The Flash actually carried out some timeline tweaking when Superman was initially resurrected and began attacking the League.

Remember when The Flash travelled through time in Batman v Superman to tell Bruce that "Lois is the key"? And remember how Lois arrived at the site of Superman's rebirth in Justice League to calm him down, in Alfred's car no less? It's no coincidence.

Though the film never shows an alternate timeline where Superman kills most of the League and forces Barry to travel back in time, that's presumably what happened. Either way, it opens the door for far more aggressive timeline-altering in Flashpoint.
