I don't think I'm entirely alone on this one. Was the Green Lantern movie one of the better superhero films to come out recently? No. But was it the worst? Most certainly not. Green Lantern was alright. It could've been better, yes I'll give you that, but it could have been a lot worse. As a result it just sort of came and went. It entertained breifly and has now floated out into our unconsciousness. The thing about the character of the Green Lantern is that his origin isn't that interesting. Anytime he was on OA, I was tickled to death. All I wanted to see were space battles and ring constructs. Then he'd go back to earth and it'd get a little tedious again. It's a film where, in my opinion, I think a sequel can only be better than the original. So long as they have the budget for it, the action would be bigger, the story bigger, and more time could be spent in space patrolling various sectors and being an honest to God Green Lantern. There's a lot of folks who were unhappy with Reynolds being cast as GL. Honestly, I had my initial qualms over it, but he grew on me. I can't think of a whole slew of people better than him. (Except Bradley Cooper. I was really rooting for him when he was in the running.) Reynolds did as good a job as anyone could have given the script and obviously looked the part and had the right attitude for Hal Jordan; cocky and brash. Given that the film only did alright at the box office, the Justice League would likely be what could spark reinterest in whether or not we see a Green Lantern sequel. Because of that, and because it's too early for a reboot (and no one wants to see his boring, tedious origin again) it's important for Reynolds to be in the Justice League. DC and Warner Brothers have already established the character, the actor, and the design. It's not all crap, so it'd be foolish to run from the time and money spent into building what GL looks like in the cinematic DCU just to get a fresh start in JL. Given that he'll be joined by 6 other heroes I think Reynolds can find new life as a team player and that can only benefit his character and the future of his franchise. Green Lantern is a great character, an important member of the league, and very underappreciated. It's unfortunate that the film didn't do him any favors. Now's the time to turn that around.
