Kevin Hart has officially joined the cast of Borderlands, director Eli Roth's upcoming film adaptation of the popular video game series of the same name.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hart will be playing Roland, a playable character of the first game and a major NPC in its first two sequels. In the games, Roland is a hardened former soldier of the Crimson Lance private military company-turned-Vault Hunter who eventually becomes one of the nemesis of antagonist Handsome Jack. The role would represent a significant departure for Hart, who is better known as a comedic actor in films like Central Intelligence and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.

Hart's involvement has been rumored since late 2020, when the website The Illuminerdi reported he was in talks to star in the adaptation of Gearbox Software's "looter shooter" action RPGs. Hart will be co-starring with Oscar-winner Cate Blanchett, who plays Lilith. Roth, known for his cult horror titles like Hostel I & II, Cabin Fever, and The Green Inferno, is directing from a script by Chernobyl writer Craig Mazin.
