Logan: 10 Biggest Questions It Leaves Unanswered

2. Which Timeline Is The Movie Actually In?

X-Men: Days Of Future Past Cyclops Wolverine Jean Grey
20th Century Fox

The Question: The X-Men franchise's approach to maintaining continuity is puzzling to say the least, so where the Hell does this movie even slot in?

The Likely Answer: You can save yourself a lot of headaches if you treat Logan as a mostly standalone movie that just so happens to cherry-pick series elements it wants to (such as mentioning the Statue of Liberty incident and implying Zander Rice's dad was killed in X-Men: Apocalypse).

To answer the question, though, James Mangold has specifically mentioned Logan being a successor to Days of Future Past in interviews, so to that token the film is basically the first to take place after the timeline was altered in that movie.

Logan's placement does make Days of Future Past feel a little less consequential overall (all that sacrifice, only for Xavier to kill a bunch of the X-Men years later), but considering the absolutely ridiculous grasp on continuity the series has, Logan actually slots in fairly neatly for the most part.
