3. Elrond Could Have Been A Rock Star

Over the years rumours of possible casting choices for the Lord of the Rings have flooded the internet. Daniel Day-Lewis was supposably considered for Aragorn, and even Nicholas Cage auditioned for the King of Gondor - that's a remake we all NEED to see.

But among other big names thrown around, was the Starman himself, David Bowie. Dominic Monaghan revealed that he saw Bowie going in for audition after he had just read for the part of Merry. Supposedly Jackson had considered Bowie for the part of Gandalf - which would have made for one interesting take on the Wizard - but Bowie was keen to take on the role of Elrond.

Ultimately the decision was made to go with actors who didn't carry so much cultural weight behind them. Jackson felt someone as huge as Bowie would only distract fans. He makes a good point, Daniel Day-lewis as Aragorn or Ziggy Stardust as Elrond would have completely overshadowed the entire film. Besides, Hugo Weaving's portrayal of the elf Lord was perfect...
