Lord Of The Rings Trilogy: 16 Easter Eggs, In-Jokes & References You Need To See

12. There Are Portraits Of Peter Jackson & Fran Walsh In Bag End - The Fellowship Of The Ring

Oh, art department - how much fun you guys must have had coming up with ideas of what to hide in the background of these movies! In the case of The Fellowship of the Ring, then, said department succeeded in sneaking in quite a few allusions to director Peter Jackson and his wife and co-writer Fran Walsh, one of which sees the pair as a couple of Baggins ancestors - Bungo Baggins and Belladonna Took - visible over the mantelpiece at Bag End. It's not particularly clear at a first glance that Bungo Baggins is supposed to be Peter Jackson, mainly because this hobbit version lacks his trademark beard. Stare for longer than a moment, though, and it becomes plainly apparent who the influence ultimately was.
