Lord Of The Rings Trilogy: 16 Easter Eggs, In-Jokes & References You Need To See
11. The Mother From Braindead Appears As Lobelia Sackville-Baggins - The Fellowship Of The Ring
You can't call yourself a true Peter Jackson fan unless you've seen one of his best and earliest movies: the endlessly gory and hilarious horror throwback that is Braindead. If you're yet to check it out, you seriously owe yourself a viewing (trust us: you won't regret it). In the movie, actress Elizabeth Moody played a horrible old woman called Vera Cosgrove, perhaps better known as "The Mother." So, naturally, Jackson brought her back for a cameo role in The Fellowship of The Ring as the irksome Lobelia Sackville-Baggins - a nosey hobbit who feels like she's the rightful owner of Bag End. Unfortunately, Moody's role was ultimately removed from the theatrical cut of the film, but was reinstated for the extended editions (the true versions, if you don't mind our saying). Moody was wonderfully brilliant in Braindead, and she died in 2010, so it's nice that she was forever immortalised here in what was arguably her most high-profile role ever.
