Lucio Fulci: His 10 Best Films

3. A Lizard In A Woman's Skin (1971)

a lizard I love love love love this film! This time Fulci hits the Giallo nail right on the head after his first attempt with One On Top Of The Other. I was totally gutted when I woke up on Christmas morning to find my sister's naughty puppy (whom I was dogsitting) had totally chewed up my copy of this film. Wah! The film stars Euro sleaze Goddess - Florinda Balkan - giving another incredible, sexy performance as a woman plagued by demented hippies, an unfaithful partner, vivid nightmares, LSD flashbacks of sexy orgies and a lesbian romance. It all ends up, as all good Giallos do, with murder, blackmail, villainy and everything coming together at the end. There is a controversial scene of dogs being experimented on. It is very upsetting for dog lovers (and I love dogs even when they chew up one of my best Giallos) and a Special Effects artist had to save Fulci from a jail sentence by testifying that the dogs were fake. All in all, this is an excellent Giallo which is becoming more and more appreciated with time and Fulci is finally being appreciated not just as a straight horror director but a master Giallo director as well.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
