6. The Wilhelm Scream
I've previously shown my distaste for the tired in-joke that is the Wilhelm Scream, but its appearance in Man Of Steel was so well adapted into the sound mix that for the first time since poor old Wilhelm was hit by that arrow it felt genuine. The fact this tired in-joke is on this list is testament to one element of Man Of Steel that didn't leave me empty; the sound. All the crashing, smashing and bashing created a real visceral feeling, even if the images didn't quite match in quality. And the music was suitably epic, with Hans Zimmer doing a good, if not Inception standard job and rightly axing the original John Williams theme. Anyway, onto the moment in question. At the film's climax, with the military piloting the equivalent of Supermans cot to destroy Zods ship, Faora (a character whos appeared in Superman comics under various guises) flies aboard the plane carrying it an attempt to complete the terraforming, throwing a soldier out in the process. The lack of any showiness means you genuinely could have missed this moment; keep an out for it on rewatch (if you can brave the film again).
