Man Utd Transfers: 11 Signings Louis Van Gaal Must Make Immediately
7. Dejan Lovren
Current Club: Southampton Southampton's early success this season in the Premier League was built on a solid foundation that meant they could move forward expressively - including bringing Luke Shaw into the attack - and it wouldn't have been possibly without the imperious performances of centre-back Dejan Lovren. The Metro have reported recently that United are set to test the Saints' resolve to keep Lovren with a £15million offer for the Croatian defender at the end of the season, offering almost double the money that the south coasters paid to Lyon less than a year ago. The reports emerged when David Moyes remained in charge of the club, so it remains to be seen whether the incoming manager would be as keen on him, but it is certain that United need to line up at least one top quality, proven defender, with Nemanja Vidic on his way to Inter Milan, and Rio Ferdinand unlikely to be a full-season option to cover the current options. Southampton are unlikely to want to cash in, particularly if they make a significant amount on Luke Shaw, but the new chairman (and current owner) might well be drawn by the quick profit on the commanding centre-half, who would offer Premier League experience to United, and the kind of presence that they have occasionally lacked in defence this season.
