Mark Hamill: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked
2. The Joker - Batman: Mask Of The Phantasm
Its no easy feat following up Jack Nicholson after his iconic turn as The Joker, so people were doubly shocked when Hamill was cast as the character for The Animated Series. They pictured someone with experience playing menacing characters like Tim Curry, not Luke Skywalker, but Hamill proved the haters wrong with his superb take on the Clown Prince of Crime. Hamills Joker is a complex take on the character, spmeone who can turn from polite and charming one moment to a raging psychopath the next. Hes constantly chuckling at his own terrible jokes, and will often take on a criminal plan just for the fun of it. Hamill also uses the characters laugh to indicate his moods; if its light and gentle hes in good spirits, and if its deep and frantic hes either furious or about to murder someone. Mask Of The Phantasm showed him at his maniacal best; he flirts with his robotic wife, kills some people and laughs hysterically while his hideout burns down around him. Hamill will reprise the role one last time for an animated take on Alan Moore's The Killing Joke, which promises to be his defining take on the character.
