Marvel Cinematic Universe: 10 Best Villains Of 2018 So Far

Like Proxima Midnight earlier in this list, Ebony Maw - the fourth member of Thanos' Black Order - feels like a character we didn't get enough of. Of the group, Maw was far and away the most memorable member, and it's almost tragic that his death, sucked out into the void of space, was treated as a punchline, even if such an ironically simple demise is what the character undoubtedly deserved.

From his oily, ugly appearance to the casual way he would flick his hands when using his telekinetic powers to his pretentious personality to the way he delivered his "Hear me and rejoice" spiel, Maw was a fascinating villain to watch, stealing the show every second he was on screen. Actor Tom Vaughan-Lawlor's performance was stellar, gifting us with a character we'll hopefully one day see again in some capacity, whether that's through flashbacks or otherwise.

Whereas Thanos is scary for his single-minded drive to see half the universe wiped out, someone like Ebony Maw is, perhaps, even more frightening, a blind, devoted follower willing to do the worst things imaginable simply out of loyalty.

At the end of the day, as misguided as he may be, Thanos genuinely believes what he's doing is right and from the heart, while someone like Maw feels as though he hides behind Thanos' motivations as a way to justify being wicked, and it's that idea that makes evil Squidward compelling even in spite of his brief screentime.
