14. Doctor Strange (2016)

Doctor Strange was always something of a labour of love for Kevin Feige. After years of intention, Kevin Feige managed to launch the cosmic arm of the MCU in some style at the same time as overseeing the most visually stunning MCU film to date, with the creative thrust of Scott Derrickson behind it.

Derrickson's horror background fed into the film's more mind-bending elements and at times, Doctor Strange really feels like it's making the technology work at its limits. It's undoubtedly in the effects work and Benedict Cumberbatch's performance as Strange that the film is at its best. And to think Cumberbatch almost wasn't available thanks to his Sherlock schedule.

There is a caveat, however, as Mads Mikkelsen's villain isn't at all great, but it's forgivable because even with limited material, there's something to be said about his presence. That's clearly why he was called in at all.
