Want charm? Look no further than Peyton Reed's Ant-Man.

Originally, Ant-Man was supposed to be released into the first phase of the MCU (and would have appeared in the first Avengers movie), but production issues (or more pertinently, creative differences) meant its gestation took a lot longer than anyone intended. After years stuck in development hell and those frictions that led Edgar Wright to leave the project it finally got off the ground.

It's impressive that it's even watchable with that backstory, but to Reed's eternal credit, he steadied the ship while listening more closely to Marvel's overall MCU plan and leaned heavily both on the charm of Paul Rudd and the comedy stylings of the scene-stealing Michael Pena to great effect. Add in some stunning effects (and a liberal slice of Honey I Shrunk The Kids nostalgia in the set-pieces) and it's a really infectious little movie with a great cast and lots of heart to match the innovation.
