Marvel's Loki TV Series: Everything We Know

4. It's Rumoured To Get A Massive Budget, With A Small Episode Count

Since the Loki show is based on a character we're used to seeing in big-budget blockbusters, there's a concern that the shows will feel cheap and underwhelming, due to the (typically) smaller scale of TV stories. But if a recent rumour is to be believed, that won't be a concern at all.

In January 2019, Discussing Film published a report about the rumoured Lady Sif TV series, where they mentioned that all of the Disney Plus Marvel shows "will receive a $100M budget". That figure is reportedly the same amount that Disney pumped into their Star Wars series The Mandalorian, and it would make sense for the studio to give each of their shows the same expensive treatment.

For comparison, your average mega-blockbuster costs around $150 - $200 million, with some movies - like Avengers: Infinity War - heading north of $200 million. $100 million is insanely high for a TV show, with only the biggest programs in the world receiving that much money. Game Of Thrones' sixth season reportedly cost $10 million per episode, and that's an exception, not a rule.

Discussing Film also mentioned that Loki will receive a 6-8 episode count; $100 million spread across that small number should ensure that each episode looks and feels as good as the films do.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
