MCU: 10 Truly Insane Crossovers We Need To See
4. Bruce Campbell Heads to the MCU
Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell catapulted to notoriety with their deliriously fiendish Evil Dead series, which Raimi used as a stepping stone to blockbuster filmmaking and Campbell parlayed into a glorious career as a B-movie icon.
Raimi never forgot how his friend's hilarious turn as Ash in the Evil Dead trilogy put the director on the path to success and he did his friend a solid by having him pop up in each of his mega-blockbuster Spider-Man films in small cameo roles. Fans didn't fail to notice Campbell's presence in the film series and speculation abounded that these small roles were in fact set-up for Campbell to later don a fishbowl to play Spider-Man arch-nemesis Mysterio.
Unfortunately, Spider-Man 3's lackluster reception and Sony's subsequent decision to scuttle Raimi's take in favor of a reboot put these fans theories to bed.
Cut to 14 years later and Raimi is back in the Marvel director's chair for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The time is ripe to fulfil the promise of the Campbell villain turn Raimi teased in his Spider-Man series. Jake Gyllenhaal already played Mysterio with aplomb, but in a multiverse there's room for two Mysterios, or, better yet, another fan-favorite villain with a penchant for illusions: the demonic Mephisto.
Will Raimi be able to convince Marvel to give his old friend a stab at MCU glory? Evil dead fans certainly hope so.
