MCU: 14 Things You Learn Rewatching The Avengers

4. That Hero Shot Is The Most Effective Single Shot In The Entire MCU

When you hire Joss Whedon for a movie like this, you do it because of a certain agenda: you want fan-baiting moments in the script, heart and emotional legitimacy, and most of all, big bombastic hero moments.

And while some of his camera work is a little self-indulgent (like the shot of Black Widow in the mirror at the start and all of the many slanty camera angles), there is no getting around the fact that the spinning hero shot from the Battle Of New York remains the single most impactful, fan-baiting moment in the entire MCU.

It's a little corny - just as all of the biggest Whedon moments (like the "there was an idea" speech) - but it's impossible not to feel something when you see it even now. It also makes an awful lot more sense than Thor's individual hero shot when he's in the field shooting lightning into the air for no reason.
