MCU: 9 Best Character Arcs In The Infinity Saga
6. Thor Finding A Funny Side

Of all the character transitions in the MCU, Thor's is arguably the most wobbly. Initially, Chris Hemsworth's performance of Thor seemed reasonably well-balanced. He was fairly serious and fairly witty, with Joss Whedon bringing out the best of these traits in the first two Avengers films. But sandwiched in between was his much more brooding and much less fun performance in Thor: The Dark World. Faith in the standalone Thor brand began to dwindle at that point.
Thank the gods that Taika Waititi's Thor Ragnarok came along, an all-out action caper which finally gave Hemsworth a version of Thor to sink his teeth into. This rebooted Asgardian heir, with his boundless wit, and childlike sense of adventure really locked into the spirit of the rest of the MCU, and reasserted Thor as a charismatic, essential component to Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
What is more remarkable, is that Hemsworth has since managed to keep these characteristics in perfect balance, even after the rock-bottom plummet of Thor's dignity in Endgame. This funny-plus-tragic transition into self-deprecation would simply not have worked, had Ragnarok not been there to bridge the gap.
