MCU Phase 4: 15 Essential Rumours & Theories You Need To Know

2. Norman Osborn Becomes An Overarching Antagonist

Marvel Studios

The Rumour:

Marvel have big plans for Norman Osborn in MCU Phase 4, and see him as a villain for not just Spider-Man, but for the Avengers too. Numerous outlets have theorised that Marvel have already seeded his arrival, but Daniel Richtman also claims that Marvel "will try their best to extend their contract with Sony" to ensure the villain plays a part in future Marvel phases.

The Response:

As with most Phase 4 rumours it's a little too early to rule this one out, but the character's entrance is by no means guaranteed. Some of the more interesting theories regarding the villain is that he's already been an influence in previous films, such as Ant-Man and the Wasp, with some even going so far as to claim Sonny Burch's buyer for stolen Pym technology was none other than Osborn himself.

Also interesting to note is that Avengers Tower - formerly Stark Tower - is under construction in the trailer for Far From Home. Could this be Osborn moving in? It’s a possibility, especially since the MCU’s New York lacks an Oscorp Tower, and with the Baxter Building already existing elsewhere in the city curtesy of Iron Fist Season 2.

Again, none of this is concrete and it's best not to get your hopes up until more reliable channels start reporting that Osborn is involved in the MCU's future, but there's no denying it's a compelling rumour.

Content Producer/Presenter

WhatCulture's very own resident movie guy, Ewan has been working in the content creation biz for over 10 years now, having started as a freelance contributor to WhatCulture Gaming all the way back in 2015. After graduating with a First-Class Honours in History from Northumbria University in 2017 (where he won a prize for a totally killer dissertation on the Watergate years), Ewan took on the role of Comics Editor at WhatCulture and quickly developed WhatCulture Comics into one of the biggest superhero-focused channels on YouTube. He followed this with a brief hiatus at Screen Rant in 2021, where he worked across the Gaming and Film sections as a writer and editor, before returning to WhatCulture as a Senior Content Producer / Presenter in 2023. He started his own podcast, We Love Dad Movies, in 2022, and has contributed several written pieces to the Eisner-nominated comics website Shelfdust as well. In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
