MCU X-Men: 10 Comic Book Storylines Marvel Must Adapt
2. Schism
While Utopia would also be a viable option, the emotional conflict between Wolverine and Cyclops finally coming to a head in Schism takes the victory here.
Elements of Utopia could be included, but the Sentinel threat and the Hellfire Club as antagonists would make this storyline feel more like an X-Men story rather than a whole MCU story, and the leading characters of Logan and Scott Summers would cause an enormous rift in the X-Men, one that could rival the closing moments of Captain America: Civil War.
The most fascinating thing Marvel Studios could do would be to shift focus and leadership away from Professor X and Magneto. As pivotal as they are as mentors, we have spent the past two decades exploring their relationship, and this competitive nature between Wolverine and Cyclops is something we are further removed from, with the two really only clashing last in X-Men: The Last Stand.
This division of the X-Men would be the perfect follow up from the events of House Of M, Messiah Complex, and Second Coming, creating a multi-movie arc between the two that would propel the mutant community perfectly in to the final entry.
