MCU X-Men: 10 Comic Book Storylines Marvel Must Adapt
3. Second Coming
Second Coming would be the perfect storyline to introduce a pre-teen or teenaged Hope Summers into the MCU. Having last seen the character as a baby, this reemerging of Hope and Cable would skip over the Messiah War storyline; but for good reason.
Messiah War is the weaker of the storylines in the trilogy of stories that began with Messiah Complex, and can easily be included as memories of events told by Cable and Hope when they return to the present day. For practicality, it makes sense to skip the future jump that Messiah War is centred on as nothing much is missed by going straight to Second Coming.
With antagonistic forces acting both in the present and in the future that Cable and Hope have just fled, the X-Men have a lot of fighting to do and suffer some heavy losses at the hands of Bastion.
Second Coming is essential for wrapping up the storyline of Cable defending Hope, and in hinting at Hope's true power. Combine that with the huge cast, an iconic villain in Bastion, and the hint of a Phoenix Force return, and Second Coming becomes an essential chapter in the MCU's overarching series of films.
