Any Tolkien fan worth their salt knows the Theatrical Editions of The Lord Of The Rings are just a window into a much bigger story. The Extended Editions, released in the winter following the original version in cinemas, added in upwards of 30 minutes of content to each film.

The most substantial was Return Of The King's, which expanded on many sequences, as well as adding in a proper death scene for Saruman, although all come out as very different experiences, steeped even more in Tolkien lore.
