Cole Young is going to be VERY important.

After a long, LONG wait - and with the film coming April 16th, no less - we finally got eyes on a trailer for Simon McQuoid's Mortal Kombat, and it looks glorious.

Pulling zero punches and going with all-out fan service - alongside a neat introduction to newcomer Cole Young, played by Lewis Tan - 2021's MK flick is looking to be the total superheroic gorefest we've wanted for over 20 years.

Story-wise we see Cole has a birthmark that resembles the MK dragon, meaning he's been "chosen" to participate in the Mortal Kombat tournament, something shown to have happened across the entirety of human history.

Going with such an "audience surrogate" protagonist is a brilliant excuse to go carte blanche with character introductions, too. We've got everyone from Raiden to Jax and Sonya, Liu Kang and Kung Lao to Shang Tsung, Mileena, Goro, Kano, Scorpion and Sub-Zero. Everyone's costumes look spot on, very much channeling NetherRealm's more recent slew of games, with the likes of Scorpion and Sub-Zero getting bulky armour that references their warrior-like capabilities.

Top to bottom this looks utterly stellar, and there's a ton to dissect in between all the blood-daggers and fatalities.
