My Hero Academia: World Heroes Mission Review - 8 Ups & 2 Downs
2. Up: The Animation
Though every one of My Hero Academia's films brag stellar animation in their own right, especially in their final battles, World Heroes Mission presents some of the most unique animation the series has ever seen.
Much more stylistic and blocky than previous films and seasons, this film doesn't skimp on creative and visually impressive sequences both in action and comedy. Even smaller scenes have a unique look to them, the animators unafraid to go off-model if it makes a scene funnier, or more exciting, as a result.
There's a certain freedom to the animation that isn't felt throughout most of My Hero Academia's history, beyond the moments they trusted a legendary animator or two to do a sequence in the way they thought looked most impressive.
Its dynamic visuals, especially in its best action sequences, have a vibe comparable to another recent anime film, Promare (Studio Trigger), in how willing the animation is to go wild when it needs to (though it has nothing on Promare's trippy colour schemes).
The animators did their work when it came to balancing different techniques and styles, matching the way this film balances comedy, action, and drama remarkably well.
