Nerve Review: 6 Ups & 5 Downs
3. Emma Roberts & Dave Franco's Chemistry
A major reason for the movie succeeding as well as it does is the palpable chemistry between Roberts and Franco. A movie of this sort can live or die on the basis of how believable the central pairing is, and these two cook up a storm on-screen.
It helps enormously that the movie throws them into increasingly outrageous situations throughout, and the film is arguably never better than when the two have their clothes stolen out of a department store changing room and are forced to leave the store in their underwear.
The chemistry, both sexual and otherwise, enhances the film's playfulness and makes it a little easier to buy into some of the sillier plot developments later on (a little bit, anyway).
