4. The Terrific Visuals

Easily the most striking aspect right out of the gate is Nerve's superb visuals, both in terms of Joost and Schulman's stylish direction (which frequently covers the screen in flashy app-style interfaces), and Michael Simmonds' gorgeous cinematography, aided by liberal use of neon lighting throughout.

It's only a $20 million movie so a workmanlike style probably would've been acceptable enough, but instead Joost and Schulman make the most of their budget and ensure the film's smart riffs on our contemporary tech-addled society are also damn fine-looking too.

That's without even mentioning that scene where Franco and Roberts strip off in a department store, speaking of which...
