20 Awesome Recent Horror Movies That Flopped At The Box Office

It really seemed like 2024's horror-comedy Abigail was destined for a solid box office showing - the spoilerific marketing played up the presence of the titular vampiric ballerina (Alisha Weir), the reviews were solid, and it was directed by Radio Silence, the team behind both Ready or Not and the fifth and sixth Scream movies.

Yet even with a fair-ish $28 million budget, Abigail ended up grossing just $43 million worldwide - an undeniably disappointing number for a movie that's got a simple, easily understood premise and is basically just a ton of gory fun.

Some pointed to a general exhaustion with vampire media at the time of the film's release, while others believed that revealing the big twist in the trailers - despite it not happening until about an hour into the movie - contributed to a so-so "B" CinemaScore.

And then there are those who blame the film's boring, undescriptive title for failing to attract much attention. Either way, Abigail is a damn fun time that will hopefully be vindicated long-term on streaming.
