Nicole Kidman has been hired to lead the remake of the 1953 comedy movie
How to Marry a Millionaire that starred
Marilyn Monroe,
Lauren Bacall and
Betty Grable. The movie is also set to be produced by Kidman for 20th Century Fox based Plum Pictures.
Sacha Gervasi will write the script. He was responsible for writing the
Steven Spielberg directed 2004 comedy/drama
The Terminal.
The Hollywood Reporter aren't telling us much about the plans for the remake, except that the plot will likely go through a complete overhaul in terms of story. The original movie is notable for being the first to be filmed in widescreen CinemaScope and one that propelled Monroe into becoming Hollywood's biggest female icon. The movie was basically about three sexy but penny less women who tried to trap millionaires into a relationship for their cash. Could work. I seem to have less problems when a remake of a comedy movie is greenlit than most other genre's but Kidman has to be real careful it doesn't turn into a "winking at the audience" remake like
Bewitched.
