One Mind Blowing Secret From Every MCU Movie
30. The Nobility Of The Dark Elves - Thor: The Dark World
It's unfortunate in many respects that Thor: The Dark World was received as badly as it was. As with any movie, there was an immeasurable amount of work poured into it by countless people, and when the reviews are as bad as they were for the Thor sequel, this work can get overshadowed.
This is what happened with Malekith and the Dark Elves. Yes, Christopher Eccleston's character was one of the most poorly written, one-dimensional villains in the wider MCU franchise, but the work that went into crafting him and his followers, and the attention to detail, was quite incredible.
Not only was there the design of Malekith himself, but there were also his almost cult-like, devout zealots, and there is one detail in particular in the Elves' garb that highlights the often overlooked and underappreciated genius of the costume department.
According to Dave White, the Special Makeup Effects Designer, on a bonus feature for the film, director Alan Taylor wanted the Elves to be a very noble race, and so their face masks were designed to tilt forward ever so slightly, forcing those under the costume to lift their head in order to see. This automatically lead to a chin-up, very proud stance, and is a tiny little detail that is so genius that it deserves a bit of attention.
