One Mind Blowing Secret From Every MCU Movie
29. Natasha's Original Introduction - Captain America: The Winter Soldier
The MCU has come a long way in its near two decades in terms of inclusion and representation, though there is still a lot more that could be done. It took 11 years for a female-led solo movie to release, even with the fact that Scarlett Johansson's Natasha Romanoff had been present since 2010's Iron Man 2.
However, that version of Black Widow was incredibly different to the one seen even just two years later in The Avengers. She was upgraded from little more than eye candy and sex appeal to a genuine hero who was not out of place next to the likes of Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk, and Captain America.
That being said, though, there was almost an embarrassingly large backstep taken straight away coming off the back of such a big outing for Natasha. Her very first scene in her very next appearance, no less.
While Widow still caught the gaze of Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) when she picked Steve Rogers up mid-conversation in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the initial version not-so-subtly had her arrive in tennis whites and a blonde wig. This idea was nipped in the bud by Johansson, and it was changed to a much slicker, more respectable introduction for such a badass and important character.
